Gu replacement Bars

Workout
Monday- Easy 5
Tues- Back and Biceps
Wed- 5 mile Tempo on treadmill with 1.0 incline (running faster on a treadmill seems harder?)
Thursday - Easy 5
Friday- Shoulders and Arms
Saturday - 18 miles

I wanted to blog sooner but this week has gotten away with me and I have been crazy busy.  First off we rescued this poor little pup who was being abandon because the owner was moving into a place that did not allow pets.  She had just bought her from the pet store about 2 weeks ago.  She is only 4 months old so we took her home hoping that Ivan would get along with her.......

Ivan did NOT get along with her.  He is 8 months now and we are getting him neutered at the end of this month which means he is getting a little on the frisky side.  I could not leave these two alone for more than 1 min before Ivan would try to pounce on the poor girl which would end up turning into a fight between the two.  NOT good I tell you.  So there was that.....

And then I recently did a Sale on Fab.com with my other job and it was a huge success so I have been have been shipping stuff out like a mad women.  The picture below is not even all of it.  More and more.  The sale is going on for 5 more days.

But on to a more pressing matter at hand. My sister Jen and I have been on the search to find the best Gu replacement out there.  We are both sick of Gu's and many of those other types of race day carbo packets to keep you going.  She texted me last night saying that she might try breaking up a Lara bar and eating during her run.  I thought that was a great idea. Kind Bars are my favorite, I love eating them and there are so many options, so I thought I might try it too. You can read up more about the difference between Lar bars and Kind bars HERE.

Have you every tried to replace your Gu with a bar?  If so what worked or didn't work for you?

Does a Treadmill ever seem harder than running outside?

Almost there.....

Ok so, I am sure you have already noticed that we the ATTrio have been so bad about blogging!  The fall is underway and things have been busy.  This is what I have been up to along with my training.  Meet Ivan!  Scott and I bought this little Frenchie about 2 weeks ago.  He will be 11 weeks tomorrow and we love him!!  He has definitely kept me busy making sure he doesn't chew, pee or poop on anything he is not supposed to.

While I am not training I have already began working on my new Fall 2012 collection!  You can see a little of my inspiration behind me.  I am already loving it!

Down to training with the Run Less Run Faster plan.  You guys, I only have one 20 miler left this Saturday at an 8:15 pace.  Then 3 weeks of taper.  Yep!  3 weeks people!!  I can't believe that NYC is almost here!!  I am getting anxious and nervous, the self doubt is already starting to creep in.  Yes the plan has worked like a dreadful charm.  It has been tough but definitely working! If you want to get faster I highly recommend this training plan.  I am no longer switching it up between the 3:30 and 3:40 plan, I am full on the 3:30 plan. I feel good, my legs are pain free and I can run strong.  Hoping to really stick to 8:15 pace tomorrow (not any faster) and come home strong.

I also just got another shipment of Muscle Nog!!  Thank goodness because I love this stuff and it will be my perfect protein recovery drink for tomorrow.

I am also a Fan of INGMarathon on Facebook and they are really starting to get everyone excited!  Just downloaded the handbook.  Woot! Woot!!  Almost there!!

How is everyone?  Any big races coming up?  Did anyone run Chicago?  How was it?

Spring 2012

I know it is early to be talking about Spring but I just finished my new Spring 12 collection and had the shoot last Friday.  Things have been so crazy for me that I haven't taken any good pix of the other things I am up to.

I did my 18 miles last Saturday at an 8:30 pace.  I somehow made it through and not even sure how I did it.  I was up so late the night before and was sick so I was way dehydrated.  I felt really dizzy after the first 3 miles and had to stop.  I really didn't think I was going to make it.  I ate some sports beans, drank some water and started again.  I just kept thinking....just 9 miles out and then I get to turn around and come home.  I even came in at my 8:30 target pace!  Glad it was over.  This Friday I am going to be early!

Tuesday I did my track workout, which I can tell I can run my target pace with less effort.  Don't get me wrong, I still don't love it but it does seem a little less miserable.

I will do my tempo tomorrow and my 20 miles on Saturday.  I guess the nice thing about being busy is that I don't have time to dwell on workouts that I am not looking forward to.  I just wake up and do them and go on with my day.  Oh and another secret, maybe this is not a secret but I try to keep my mind thinking about anything and everything besides how I am feeling while I am running.  Before I know it my workout it over!

I really do love(like) my workouts but you know what I mean :)
Because I don't have any pix I just wanted to share some of my favorite looks from my new collection!

I am already wishing it was the weekend!  Anyone else?  Any fun plans?

Rain, please stop..

I don't about you guys but over here on the East Coast it is raining like crazy.  It rained all day yesterday and will rain all day today and tomorrow which means......maybe no running?  I do run in the rain sometimes but not always.  Depends on my mood and how wet it is already.  It is days like these that I wish I had a gym with a treadmill.

Should be heading out for my tempo but I may end up doing Tracy Anderson instead.

On a side note how was your Holiday?  Mine was great!  Saturday I had a totally great run with 13 miles @ 7:56 pace.  That never really happens for me so I can tell that the Run Less Run Faster Plan is really working.  Then we shopped and found a new bed.  Sunday we relaxed, went to church and I went to the flea market to find props for my photoshoot this Friday. They always have lots of good stuff but didn't find what I was looking for.

I really loved these and really wanted to buy them.  They are African Antelope horns.  I am still thinking about them but I didn't know where I would put them.  I said above our bed and my husband said ahhhh no.  Lame...

Monday night we decided to hit up 5th avenue to go into Niketown and shop around there.  I didn't end up buying anything but it was a beautiful night.

Work has been so busy that I love it!  I love it when I have too much to do and not enough time to do it in.  Makes me a little stressed but in a good way.  Yesterday I saw a ton of models for my shoot. I picked one but my husband said no (he is the creative director of Edelweiss, it's really annoying sometimes) so I am seeing more girls today.  Keep your fingers crossed!!

What do you do if it is raining?

Do you work better under pressure?

Run like a Girl and a Giveaway Basket... just another Monday =)

First and foremost, I can't wait to recommend this book. Run Like a Girl by Mina Samuels. Here are a few words that describe how I felt while reading it: Inspired, happy, captivated and peaceful. This book touches on some of the "hurdles" that we as women have had to overcome for equality in sports. It reminds you how the confidence you build in your sports can and most likely, (whether you realize it or not) play a role in your daily life. A few topics she covers within its pages are: the everlasting chore of finding balance, enjoying camaraderie, finding peace, everlasting friendships and as she calls it, "Chicking the Boys" =). There are numerous stories of women who have used their sports to motivate and challenge themselves to move out of there comfort zone. In the bottom of the first page of the Introduction she writes,

In the words of the French philosopher and writer, Adre Gide, "[Wo]man cannot discover new oceans unless [s]he has the courage to lose sight of the shore."

I really liked this book and I highly recommend it. I was given this book for free but I promise that this opinion is entirely my own. I am always hankering for a good inspiring book to read and I really feel like she nailed it.

Friday

Yesterday morning I pulled myself out of bed to get to my 7 AM yoga class. Yes, I know... 7 is not that early but for me it was tough.  I feel like I never get to bed before Midnight which makes it that much harder to get up in the morning.

Ok so this was my first time at Bikram Yoga. I normally go to a Vinyasa class at Hosh yoga which I love but I also wanted to try the hot stuff.  Let me just say I will need a few days before I head back.  That place was HOT, I mean 1 1/2 hours of pure heat and sweatyness I thought I was going to pass out! I made it through and felt glad about that.  I will probably head back on Monday or Tuesday.  I would like to make one comment if I may?  Why oh why is the studio carpeted??  I mean yuck oh, all I could think about for 90 minutes was germs, am I going to pick up any germs??  I have my mat, I have my towel so please lets get something else besides the carpet that absorbs sweat and germs and move on to something more advanced??  Ok I am done now and will be going back.

For my day job I design woman's clothing.  I own my own company called Edelweiss by Sarah so the majority of my morning was working on that but I was excited because I was giving myself a field trip to the Met to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit.   I made it up to the upper east side and had to wait in line just to get in!  Once I was in my whole energy level changed, I couldn't help but feel sadden by the loss of such a great designer and artist.  It was a very intense feeling for me.  After I walked through I had to explore a little more.  I love the Met and don't go enough.

So after a little while my stomach was screaming, I had to eat fast.  I don't know why I didn't bring a snack with me.  I was panicked, my blood sugar was dropping at a rapid pace.  I was going to walk back to the train and then saw that Sigmund Pretzelshop had a truck outside the museum.  Score! So I got a pretzel dog with mustard.  Delish!

I happened to walk down one of the most beautiful streets in NYC.  East 80th, all of the town homes looked like Alexander Hamilton could have lived in them.  Very American Colonial. I was lame and only took a pic of the flowers on the street.

Before I headed back to the studio I needed to run by the Farmer's market in Union Square to pick up some honey from a local guy to help cure my terrible allergies.  Anybody else suffering from the same problems this spring??  Mine are really buggin.

Got home and ate this.... whole wheat english muffin with almond butter, banana and honey.  It was good.

Got back and did some more work before I headed back into the city once again to meet my man for dinner.  Because I have my 22 miler today I thought I would eat a bowl full of carbs for dinner... We really like this place in the East Village called Supper.  It took forever to get our food but it was still good.

I had the Tagliatelle al Prosciutto di Parma, very salty and good but way too much and have left overs for today.  I think I actually like eating cold pasta rather than warm.  Is that weird?

And no trip could be complete without a stop to my favorite fro yogurt place, 16 Handles. YUM!

Here we are headed back to Brooklyn on the motorcycle.  It was a little chilly so I had to wear my scarf up around my face.  I thought I looked like a ninja, Scott just looks like he has a black alien head. Luckily on a motorcycle it does not take us long to get home.  We can weave through traffic, it is wonderful.
A little late night TV and then reading of my book before I hit the hay.  22 miler starts at 7-7:30 at the latest.  Taking 3 frozen Gu's with me and a pack of sports beans AND I am carrying water with me.  No more of me hoping to find it on the run.  Everytime I do that I wind up only thinking about when I am going to get more water.  Spring is here, sun is out I am sweating so I need my water!!

PS My sister Heather was totally right on about freezing the Gu's.  Way better cool than hot!

What do you eat the night before a long run?
-I actually don't usually eat pasta, I don't really like it but I thought why not.

Also, what do you eat in the morning before a long run?
-Me, I am always eating grahams with Dark Chocolate Wonderful pb but gonna try a bowl of grape nuts and almond milk this time.

Happy Weekend!!
