The Dreaded Scale

 My Scale


As I am sure many women do, after I wake up and do my thing I stripe down and step on the scale.  Do I weigh more or less than yesterday.  Judging by the numbers on the scale with ultimatly decide my attitude for the day.

Lower numbers on the scale equals a happy more pleasant me, higher numbers on the scale... well that means less food which means... crab-bie!  Yes, it is true. I let the scale get a hold of my life and control my attitude for each day.  It wasn't until about February when I decided I did not need to weigh myself each day.  So I would go with out, in fact I hardly ever way myself anymore and go by how I feel.  Are my pants too tight?  Am I eating too much junk food?  I have long been a victim of counting calories in the past and so I have a pretty good knowledge of what is in what. Since I have been stepping less on the scale I have noticed my stress level has gone way down.  It has been great!  Then just recently I read a blog post from Janetha at Meals & Moves who referenced Mary and Melissa's blog about getting rid of their scale. Janetha said she doesn't even get weighed at the Doctor's office.  She just tells them that she is not over or under her weight and that was that.

All this talk of ditching the scale has inspired me to do the same.  So that is it.  No more I say. This morning I was tempted, thinking well maybe just one last time before I leave the scale behind but decided nope, I was not going to let those numbers rule my day.  Alas, my relationship with the scale is OVER!!


Me being oh so happy when I decided not to step on that scale!

  1. Yay for no scale!
    I went through a period where I actually weighed myself 5-6 times a day. Not good. I still weight myself, but closer to once a week and I feel much better because of it. Good for you!

  3. I'm so glad I got your comment because I am loving your blog - especially the sister concept! I have a sister whom I adore and we always talked about blogging together (too bad she doesn't run!) I wil be following! Oh and good job on the scale issue, I weigh in once a month or so...eating clean and staying fit usually keep me pretty happy when I step on it too :)

  5. we dont own a scale. Its such a bad habit I agree. I like how you can be comfortable in your own skin and no NUMBER can define that!

  6. Okay- don't freak out on me. But. . . I love my scale! If I didn't weigh myself at least 3 times a week, I wouldn't know when I needed to pay more attention to what I was eating. I do agree that you should just be happy where you are and shoudn't stress. But, I have friends who are overweight who have told me that it was a gradual process (the weight gain) and they didn't even realize it was happening until they were up 10-15lbs. I know that sounds crazy- but I do not want that to happen to me! I'll continue weighing, but also just eat healty most of the time and pay attention to how I feel more than what the scale says!

  8. @Amber, haha yes it is ok I would freak! I totally agree how you have to be careful because weight can easily slip back on. That why I think I may end up being even more careful and watchful of my body and what I am putting into it. We will put it to the test... Next time you see me and if I look heavier I am hoping as a friend you will let me know ;)

  11. Ditch the scale!! It is so unnecessary! I have no idea how much I weigh and I'm okay with that (although it's taken me years). If my clothes feel a bit tight, I make better food choices. All in moderation.

  12. i ditched my scales not too long ago and i am so much happier, i hated thinking horribly about myself because of a being heavier than the day before!!

  14. I never weigh myself anymore. Sometimes it's best not to know, and just go with how I'm feeling and how clothes are fitting.

  15. Way to go! I think we all have a little bit of a negative relationship with our scales. We love them or we hate them. Great attitude and you look great!
