Holiday Weekend

This past weekend we were invited to stay at a friends house in East Hampton.  We almost didn't make the trip because we were having trouble finding a sitter for Ivan our pup but last minute it all worked out and we headed up Sunday afternoon.  Let me just tell you this house was AMAZING!! So beautiful and I am pretty sure we got the best room in the house.  We had a walk out that looked over the pool.  It was heavenly.

Monday morning I couldn't resist the urge to lace up my running shoes and take an easy jog into town.  It is not everyday you get to enjoy the beautiful tree lines blocks and fresh air when you are living in Brooklyn.  It was a great little jog, just over 5 miles.  But let me tell you it was hot and humid!  I was dripping with sweat and I was just taking it easy.

Our friends wanted to try paddle boarding and Scott and I were all about it.  Neither of us had done it before so it sounded great.  The sun was blistering hot so it was perfect for it.  I really needed to work on my tan if you know what I mean.

We had a great little getaway and even though it was short it was still very very sweet.   On the way back we passes the Tracy Anderson studio and next time I am up there I am definitely going to hit up one of her classes!!  I love her workouts!

How was your weekend???   Anyone take a last minute getaway?

Late Nite = Late Morning

Yesterday I went in to get my roots colored.  And while I was in there I decided to take out the pink and add in royal blue with dark grape purple. Best decision I have ever made!  I seriously love my hair.  I do realize that coloring your hair is something you are supposed to go through when you are a teenager but I never got the chance.  I am pretty sure my parents would not have been down with the idea.

So now that I am older and wiser and more importantly my job allows it (cuz I'm my own boss :)) I have fell in love with dying my hair different colors!  My New York Mini 10k is an all female race coming up on June 9th and I feel this is the best look for that race!!

As I was crawling into bed last night at 10:45 my husband Scott had a burst of energy and wanted to go see our friend's band play.  They were going on in 10 mins so as much as I was happy to curl under the covers and hit the hay I jumped up threw on my glasses and a sweatshirt and we rode to see their show.  They did an awesome job and their EP is coming out soon.  When it does I will let you know because they are truley talented and I think a lot of you guys would like their music. It is three sisters with a guy playing an extra guitar and a drum player.  They are Hey Anna!  Seriously so good!

We got home a little after midnight and I fell asleep around 12:30-1 so instead of hearing my 5 AM alarm I just woke up and am way tired.  Need to go get my run on!!

This weekend we are packing for our move next week!!  Woohoo!  And we got invited up to the Hamptons on Sunday night to stay till Monday but if we don't find a pup sitter that won't be happening :(

How about you guys?  Any fun plans for this weekend?  Races? Places??

Will be doing 5 today and most likely 8 tomorrow, that is if it STOPS raining already.  Geeze!

New Goals

Yesterday I ran my 8 miles outside even though it was raining.  It was not a downpour just a lite sprinkle so I went for it.  It felt good, I felt good, I felt strong and my legs felt great!  I have been thinking a lot about what is next for me with running.  As much as I love signing up for marathons I have yet to sign up for my next one and I am not sure why.  I want to make sure I am ready especially since I have ran 3 in the last 6 months. I am no miracle runner and like most people my body does better when it has the proper recovery. I really miss logging miles.  I go up and down all the time with training.  The other day I was talking with my sister Jen and I told her that right now I want to work on getting in more miles before I sign up for my next one.

So my new goal is get up to 40- 50 miles a week comfortably.  Right now I am at about 25 miles so I have a ways to climb.  Also I want to do it right so I don't risk injury.  Once I am there I will see which race will be next!

(Sorry for the fuzzy pic)

On a totally different side note I am totally in love with these shoes and I can't stop thinking about them :)

Mark your calendars!  Big STUFF happening JUNE 1st!!!!

So tell me, what are your goals right now?  Anyone working on logging miles??

First Run Since Marathon and GIVEAWAY

So I ran yesterday for the first time since my race last week.  I ran 5 miles and I will have to say that it felt pretty good.  My shin was annoying me a little but nothing too bad.  I usually have a hard time taking a whole week off after a race but I am happy that I did.  Totally worth it!

Next up is my Mini 10K in Central Park June 9th.  I love this race and its women only :)

Spring is here and with that comes a busier schedule.  My shoot on Saturday went great and the fab.com sale will be on June 5th!  We are also moving at the end of this month and heading to Dallas on Thursday to visit family so it is going to be a crazy two months.  I can already tell.

Last up don't forget to enter the GIVEAWAY!!!  The winner will be chosen on 18th!!

How was your weekend?

Sleeping In

Let me tell you, sleeping in has never felt so good.  I decided since I won't be running this week and I will be recovering from my race I was going to turn off my 5 AM alarm and just wake up naturally.  Yesterday was around 6-6:15 and today I slept in till almost 7!  It was nice :)

I also want to say THANK YOU for all the comments post race.  I didn't really say it before because I was having post race depression but I really did have a good race!  I enjoyed it and I really liked the beautiful scenery.  Also 4:05 is a great time and I am happy with the outcome!

Moving on, last night I was able to go to a Q&A with Tom Ford.  I am not sure if you know who he is but he is truly an amazing designer!  Very inspiring and extremely eloquent and funny. I really enjoyed what he had to say.  I wanted to come home and just design new collections all night.  There are a few things he said that I really liked. I don't remember them word for word but I will try...

Being a boss or a creative director it is important to make your employees feel good and feel comfortable so they can contribute their best work.

Also he said something about when you are looking to hire someone, think to yourself would you like to have dinner with them?  If yes then they will make a good team player and your ideas will be compatible with each other.

Hmmm what else... He loves to hear what everyone thinks then he absorbers it and comes back with his decision but he is very quick.

I really could go on and on but I will stop myself there.  I will see if I can find the interview online somewhere so you can read the whole thing if you are interested.

Oh and he is a Virgo, so am I :)

My sister Heather found this Awesome race in Vancouver sponsored by Lululemon.  Anyone going??  We are going to try and get ourselves up there.  It just sounds too good to pass up!

Anyone else get the post race blues?

Long Island Race Report

Yesterday I woke up at 5 had my usual toast with almond butter, chia seeds, banana and cinnamon and got dressed and ready to go.  I left the house my 6 and drove out to Uniondale in Long Island.  It was nice because there was no traffic and it only took 30 mins to get there.  I drank a spark in the car and then had some caffeine and advil 15 mins before the race started.  Total bathroom trips before it all started was about 5-6 only 2 at the race though.

The weather was perfect about 55 and overcast.  A little humid but not that bad....yet! I really wanted to have a good race.  I wanted to start out slow which I did.  First three miles were in the 9:30s. It was a really small race.  Most of the people where doing the half.  So this is how it went down.

I finished at 4:05 with a 9:26 avg pace.  This is obviously for me, slower than I wanted to run this race.  But I wasn't expecting much since I only trained for 6 weeks and overall did about 5 speed workouts.  I never did my 20 miler and I hadn't logged too many miles.  So I am not too disappointed yet.  My goal was too have fun with no stopping and I did just that.

Here is the map of the race.  By starting off super slow I had trouble picking it up to where I needed to be which in my mind which was between an 8-8:20 pace.  I was only coming in around 8:30. I am not sure why but I just couldn't force myself to go faster.  I was so afraid of running out of energy too soon that I played it safe.  We were with the half marathoners up to mile 10, after that we split off and headed down the freeway.  Let me tell you, it got very lonely out there.  There were hardly any runners and it was super quite.  Not really any spectators.  I told myself before the race started no music till mile 15 and so I was counting it down till I got there.  It was tough.

I found a runner and we began to pace each other, kind of working together.  I would follow behind him or vice versa.  It  worked pretty good until about mile 19-20.  He fell off behind and it was back to being just me again.  Let me tell you that my soreness hit super early.  Mile 13! I am not sure why this happened but it did.  I took advil at mile 16 and was really wishing for more at mile 22.

I hit my wall at 18, I could feel it come in, my left hand went completely numb and my fingers were freezing.   I started to see the darkness set in and because I knew exactly what it was I was able to push through it and over come it.  Even though I didn't walk I did slow down and walk through the water stations.  It was hot by mid race and the sun, when it was out was a scorcher so I wanted to make sure I drank water at every station.  PS the Gatorade chews.... not a good idea.  They were super hard to get out of the package and at one point I almost didn't think I was going to get them out to eat.  Way too much effort.

Walking to the starting line.

From mile 15 on I slowed down even more.  My legs were tight and sore. I remember at mile 13 my right foot under my pinky toe was really hurting and then I knew.  My compression socks give me blisters and I still continue to wear them.  I am not sure why.  At mile 19 I began to only think positive thoughts until my race was over.  Luckily at mile 23 there were spectators again (but really only for a bit) and the majority of them were at mile 25 until the end.  I didn't realize how much specters help in a race.  They keep your mind somewhere else especially if you are running alone.

I was happy to cross the finish line. I went straight to the medical tent to get ice that I could sit on. LOL My butt muscles where super tight. I was tired and ready to go home.  I got my finishers bag that had a bagel, banana, apples and orange.  I was beginning to feel like I was going to throw up.  I focused on putting one foot in front of the other and began to walk to my car and make phone calls. I had no recovery drink and I really really needed one.  I lost way more salt that I thought I had.  I could see it all over my body and my face.  When I showered after I got home I could taste it running off of me.

Finally after finding my car which took a long walk and some asking of directions I got in and headed home.  I managed to munch on the bagel and banana.  I ran out of water so I was super thirsty.

I was major dehydrated.  I was starting to worry that I was going to have the same issue as Jen did during the goofy and need to get an iv.  Scott made me eggs that I could hardly eat.   I showered got dressed relaxed a little and I was feeling a little better so we decided to go get some fro-yo in the city.  We took the bike and it was super nice and sunny.  I started to drink more and more water.  Mistake.  As we got into the city from Brooklyn I thought I was going to be sick again.  I really had to focus on not throwing up.

We got to 16 handles and I couldn't even get my own.  I had to have Scott do it because I did not want to be throwing up in the yogurt shop.  I ate my yogurt, sat for a little and was starting to feel better.  I actually can't believe how much it helped me feel better.

By the time we got back home I was starving.  This was a good sign so we hung out with the dog for an hour then went and ate dinner.  I was craving something juicy and fatty.  This burger did the trick.  It was so so good!

I have been drinking Gatorade to help and today I am feeling much better.  Still a little tired and sore but much better than yesterday. As I think back now I am bummed that I didn't push myself harder for a better time.   I am starting to feel like maybe 4 hours is the best I can do.  I should be happy with that but I still want a better time.  I want to run a race and have everything go right.  I just don't know if that is going to happen for me.  My training runs are always stronger than my races.  Shouldn't it be the other way around?  I want to PR but for some reason I haven't been able to do it. My best time was 3:56 back in AZ.

I am wondering if I should take some time off from racing?  I wanted to plan on running the Twin Cities marathon in Oct but now I am not sure.  Am I strong enough?  So yes I am sad today.  I am tired and I know I will feel better tomorrow so I will decide then.

Even though I am sad I am happy that I have #6 under my belt.  Each one is a learning experience.

Next up the NYC Women's Mini 10k in June!

Matters of Importance Come Race Day

My car has been in the shop for almost 4 weeks! Seriously?! Anyways I told them they HAD to be done by today because I needed to drive to my race this weekend.  So on my way there I walked past this billboard and thought it was pretty funny.  It is sad but true.......

Moving on.  I am so excited for my race this Sunday and I am not really sure why?  Maybe it's because I only trained for 6 weeks or maybe it is because I told myself I am doing this for fun and no pressure.  Just to do my best.

I decided to put together a list of Matters of Importance come race day.  The top being the most important and the last been the least but still important.

1. Get a TAN! (I am so ready for the summer and to get myself a nice tan)
2. Look Good and Run Faster
3. Have Fun
4. Enjoy the scenery
5. Keep a Good and Enjoyable Pace, not too fast but not too slow.
6. Finish Strong
7. Finish Happy
8. Finish Healthy
9. Listen to Good Music
and
10. Get an even better TAN :)

This is what I will be wearing, yes I planned this out and tried to match and stuff.  I do this because when I look good, I feel good and when I feel good I run stronger and run faster.  So I am pretty excited about my outfit :)

Who else has a race this weekend??  Good luck!!

The Cone of Shame...

Before I get into anything else I had to take the iMan to the Vet on Monday to get fixed.  And now he has to wear the cone of shame.  Poor Pup :(  Actually that is not entirely true.  Because of his body type he can't actually get his head down there to scratch at anything so he doesn't really need to wear it.  But I couldn't help myself and made him put it on for at least one picture.  hehe

After my post HERE I got some ideas of what to eat.  Unfortunately I could not find the Picky Bars anywhere.  Not even my whole foods.  Bummer.  But I am gonna try a Lara Bar thanks to Amber who suggested the Luna bar but I like the Lara bar a little better so I am going to try it out tomorrow.  Also picked up some of those Gatorade chews for during the race.  If they are anything like Gatorade I am down.  Last but not least are my favorites.  Bullseye Candy!  Seriously my favorite thing to eat and great for race day.

Killing two birds with one stone I picked up this super yummy pretzel baguette from Whole FoodsLast time I had one of these I remember it being beyond wonderful!  So I will be eating this with dinner tonight.  That leads to my next question....  What to eat with it?

3 more days till race day!! Woohoo!
