Working out in your home/apt!

I have been working out in my apartment for almost 4.5 years.  I joined a gym once or twice but couldn't justify the bill when I could just do it from home.  First off, the best place to workout is outside!  Along with running I also live near a local track (not a high school track) which means it is there whenever I need it.  Not everyone has access to a track so sometimes I will go to a park with a basket ball court and do different plyo type exercises to change it up.

As far as working out inside my apartment this is the best set up I came up with.  Not always having tons of space you may have to get creative.  As you can see below I place my laptop on the table which will play my workout videos and on the TV I will usually watch the Today show (cuz I love it) or whatever else might be on.  Bachlorette??  I put my yoga mat on the floor and there you go!  Yes I admit sometimes it is not always the greatest but I don't have to worry about hopping on the train to get to my gym and then back home.  Takes way too much time, this way I can basically crawl out of bed, BLOG and then workout.

This is me doing my Tracy Anderson moves. I will do Tracy videos, P90x, Yoga, really any kind of workout video I can get my hands on will be done right here in front of my TV.

Another idea that you might try to look up is non-profit classes.  The place that I go to for yoga is called Hosh Yoga and it is non-profit.  There is a suggested $10 donation at the end but feel free to pay what you can.  I only need to go yoga once a week and I love this place.  Everyone is really chill and laid back.  No need to worry about being inflexible because everyone there is just happy to be there. So off to yoga I go....

Today I was starving when I got home and even tho it was lunch time I couldn't resist my cereal mix. Multigrain Cheerios, GrapeNuts and Granola with Almond Milk and sliced Banana.  Yum!  I could really eat cereal all day but I try to limit it to 1 bowl a day. maybe 2 :)

Last night we were having perfect weather so Scott and I walked out to the pier. About 2 block from where we live.  I had him take a picture of me with the Williamsburg Bridge in the background.  That is the bridge I run over every time I go running.  It is about 1.25 miles over.  Most of the time I dread going up, especially at the end of my run and I have to get back over.  The Hill!  Arg, it is really a love hate thing.

So even if you belong to the gym and just don't feel like making the track you can always always workout at home.

Do you like working out from home?

What workout video is your favorite?

Cereal Mix?

The End of the World

Hmmmm.... where to begin.  Oh yes, I know.  HOT yoga = NEVER AGAIN!  That's right folks.  I tried it again yesterday thinking maybe it wouldn't be as bad as the first time and just maybe I would be a little better. Boy was I wrong!  I nearly passed out more than once.  My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest.  Never again people.  I am happy with my other Vinyasa class anyways at Hosh Yoga, much more my thing.

After that I decided I was not going to let my near death experience ruin my day.  So I put on a happy face and went about my work...

This is what I like to call my C&C Snack.  I seriously could eat a whole thing of cottage cheese in one day but I try really hard not too.  But I will say I probably finished off half.

Ah back to work, I have been working on this dress for the past day or so and I finally put it all together.  First off I will say this is stiff muslin that I used and the actual dress with be made from a washed silk/cotton blend.  Way more relaxed and light weight.  So this dress is looking a little stiff.  I am making adjustments.  I don't like the collar or the pleating in the back, so I am changing it.

Before I finished correcting my pattern, I had the usual salad of the day.  Nothing to write home about but I like it and it's fast.  Oh and after I had a dark chocolate square.

Pattern DONE!!  Ready to move onto the next!

Oh yeah, I made the collar bigger as you can see below.  Not that this is super exciting to read about but for the moment that is all I was thinking about for the day.

Scott made it home and we were off to dinner.  We love going to this pizza place called Fornino.  It is just up the street but we decided to change it up!  We headed a few more blocks into Brooklyn for Motorino.  Can I just say, it is true.  NY is home to some of the best pizza.  It was sooooo good.  Scott's calzone was huge!

Now to our last day here on earth.  Well that's what everyone is saying right??   Because it was my last day I couldn't possibly pass up the opportunity to run another 20 miler.  (It's my last one before the marathon!!) So I got an early start and headed out.  I didn't post have of the food I ate yesterday.  I seriously ate way too much and I was feeling it the entire time.  This 20 miler was tough.  Even after the first mile I had to stop and squat(not bathroom, just squatting).  It helps my tummy relax.  I was thinking how am I going to do this.   Just the thought of GU was making me sick.  In fact all I could get down were 3 shot bloks at mile 5.6 and mile 14.5.  That's it!  Just water.  I was feeling it.  I was just dreading, dreading, dreading this run.

Hello New Jersey!

The only thing that got me through was going a 10 min pace and counting in my head like this.  Only 5 more miles to 10 and then I get to turn around and go home.  This went on the entire time.  When it was 10 and I could head back it was like this... only 9 more miles and then I am home! Finally home!

The police are in full force today because it is the end of the world.  They were everywhere during my run.  I mean people get crazy ideas in their head and all hell can break loose.  In fact on my way back over the bridge there was a man holding onto the the fence on the OTHER SIDE trying to jump!  There where police and tons of people trying to get him to change his mind.  I was going to take a picture for you guys but just couldn't.  I felt too bad to take a picture of this poor man trying to end his life.  It was so sad that I began to cry as I kept running.  I know, why would I cry but it was just sad thinking this guy wanted to end his life.  I am guessing he thought it was the end of the world but in that case, why not just wait till it all ends.

But I am not worried because my husband Scott has these cards!!  So we are in the clear.  Unfortunately I don't have enough for my family so they are on their own.  Hehe...

For the rest of my day I plan to do laundry and take in some R&R for my last moments here on earth.

How about you?  Any fun plans for the day?

Friday

Yesterday morning I pulled myself out of bed to get to my 7 AM yoga class. Yes, I know... 7 is not that early but for me it was tough.  I feel like I never get to bed before Midnight which makes it that much harder to get up in the morning.

Ok so this was my first time at Bikram Yoga. I normally go to a Vinyasa class at Hosh yoga which I love but I also wanted to try the hot stuff.  Let me just say I will need a few days before I head back.  That place was HOT, I mean 1 1/2 hours of pure heat and sweatyness I thought I was going to pass out! I made it through and felt glad about that.  I will probably head back on Monday or Tuesday.  I would like to make one comment if I may?  Why oh why is the studio carpeted??  I mean yuck oh, all I could think about for 90 minutes was germs, am I going to pick up any germs??  I have my mat, I have my towel so please lets get something else besides the carpet that absorbs sweat and germs and move on to something more advanced??  Ok I am done now and will be going back.

For my day job I design woman's clothing.  I own my own company called Edelweiss by Sarah so the majority of my morning was working on that but I was excited because I was giving myself a field trip to the Met to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit.   I made it up to the upper east side and had to wait in line just to get in!  Once I was in my whole energy level changed, I couldn't help but feel sadden by the loss of such a great designer and artist.  It was a very intense feeling for me.  After I walked through I had to explore a little more.  I love the Met and don't go enough.

So after a little while my stomach was screaming, I had to eat fast.  I don't know why I didn't bring a snack with me.  I was panicked, my blood sugar was dropping at a rapid pace.  I was going to walk back to the train and then saw that Sigmund Pretzelshop had a truck outside the museum.  Score! So I got a pretzel dog with mustard.  Delish!

I happened to walk down one of the most beautiful streets in NYC.  East 80th, all of the town homes looked like Alexander Hamilton could have lived in them.  Very American Colonial. I was lame and only took a pic of the flowers on the street.

Before I headed back to the studio I needed to run by the Farmer's market in Union Square to pick up some honey from a local guy to help cure my terrible allergies.  Anybody else suffering from the same problems this spring??  Mine are really buggin.

Got home and ate this.... whole wheat english muffin with almond butter, banana and honey.  It was good.

Got back and did some more work before I headed back into the city once again to meet my man for dinner.  Because I have my 22 miler today I thought I would eat a bowl full of carbs for dinner... We really like this place in the East Village called Supper.  It took forever to get our food but it was still good.

I had the Tagliatelle al Prosciutto di Parma, very salty and good but way too much and have left overs for today.  I think I actually like eating cold pasta rather than warm.  Is that weird?

And no trip could be complete without a stop to my favorite fro yogurt place, 16 Handles. YUM!

Here we are headed back to Brooklyn on the motorcycle.  It was a little chilly so I had to wear my scarf up around my face.  I thought I looked like a ninja, Scott just looks like he has a black alien head. Luckily on a motorcycle it does not take us long to get home.  We can weave through traffic, it is wonderful.
A little late night TV and then reading of my book before I hit the hay.  22 miler starts at 7-7:30 at the latest.  Taking 3 frozen Gu's with me and a pack of sports beans AND I am carrying water with me.  No more of me hoping to find it on the run.  Everytime I do that I wind up only thinking about when I am going to get more water.  Spring is here, sun is out I am sweating so I need my water!!

PS My sister Heather was totally right on about freezing the Gu's.  Way better cool than hot!

What do you eat the night before a long run?
-I actually don't usually eat pasta, I don't really like it but I thought why not.

Also, what do you eat in the morning before a long run?
-Me, I am always eating grahams with Dark Chocolate Wonderful pb but gonna try a bowl of grape nuts and almond milk this time.

Happy Weekend!!
